\n\tMan\u00e1<\/a> has become the first ever Spanish-language rock band to be nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inclusion \u2013 a historic and long overdue recognition for not only Man\u00e1 but Spanish-language music in general. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWith this nomination, Man\u00e1 becomes the first Latin nominee for Rock Hall induction in nearly 10 years (since Los Lobos were nominated in 2016). Three Latin artists \u2013 who record primarily in English \u2013 have been inducted into the Rock Hall since its first edition in 1986, including Santana (1998), Ritchie Valens (2001) and Linda Ronstadt (2014). \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re four guys who grew up in Mexico listening to rock and roll \u2014 The Beatles, The [Rolling] Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Santana,\u201d lead singer Fher Olvera tells Billboard<\/em>, speaking on behalf of Man\u00e1. \u201cWe dreamed of sharing our lyrics and music with the world. \n\tRock\u00a0& Roll Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday (Feb. 12) this year\u2019s nominees, unveiling 14 artists who are in contention to join the Rock Hall\u2019s Class of 2025. Besides Man\u00e1, the list includes Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division\/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden and The White Stripes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRevolutionizing the rock en espa\u00f1ol <\/em>scene, Man\u00e1 \u2013\u00a0composed of Olvera, drummer Alex Gonz\u00e1lez, guitarist Sergio Vall\u00edn and bassist Juan Calleros \u2013 formed more than 30 years ago in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and have since become one of the most revered and successful rock bands out of Latin America. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTheir debut on the\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0charts came in January 1994 with\u00a0D\u00f3nde Jugar\u00e1n los Ni\u00f1os<\/em>, peaking at No. 2 on the\u00a0Top Latin Albums<\/a>\u00a0chart. But it was their 1997 set, Sue\u00f1os L\u00edquidos, <\/em>that became Man\u00e1\u2019s first album to hit No. 1 on Latin Albums, and seven more No. 1s came after that, making Man\u00e1 the Latin rock group with the most leaders on that chart to date. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFurthermore, Man\u00e1 holds the title for the Latin rock band with the most entries on Hot Latin Songs and Latin Airplay \u2013 with 33 and 36 total entries, respectively. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the touring front, Man\u00e1 remains active and relevant. While they\u2019ve toured around the world through decades, in 2023, Man\u00e1 accomplished an extraordinary feat playing more than 55 concerts, including 16 as part of a\u00a0residency at Los Angeles\u2019 Kia Forum, where it sold over 220,000 tickets, according to Live Nation. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMan\u00e1 is one of my favorite bands,\u201d says Bob Roux<\/strong>, Live Nation president U.S. concerts. \u201cThey\u2019re a global touring powerhouse. They sell out everywhere they go from Los Angeles to Mexico City, Buenos Aires to Bogota, Madrid and even London. What I love most about them is every tour has a social cause. They\u2019re always giving back to their community. They have worked tirelessly their entire career, making great records, performing live, and standing up for what they believe in. I can\u2019t think of a more deserving artist to get this prestigious nomination.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith anthemic songs like \u201cOye Mi Amor,\u201d \u201cClavado En Un Bar,\u201d \u201cEl Reloj Cuc\u00fa\u201d and \u201cRayando El Sol,\u201d just to name a few, Man\u00e1 has for decades been a fixture in multigenerational homes in Latin America and beyond. Its music has not only stood the test of time, but the band has also become a fierce advocate of environmental justice \u2013 launching Selva Negra Foundation in 1996 \u2013 and a protector of immigrant rights, most recently speaking out against President Trump\u2019s mass deportation efforts. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe want to share this recognition with all Latinos everywhere, especially the immigrants who are suffering right now,\u201d adds Olvera. \u201cDon\u2019t lose faith. Our people always find a way. Man\u00e1 loves you. We\u2019ll always be here standing with you.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tNominees for the Rock & Roll Hall\u00a0of Fame are voted on by an international panel of more than 1,200 artists, historians and music industry players. Plus, a fan-voted element that impacts the final tally. The Class of 2025 will be revealed in late April, and the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
