\n\tThe night of Oct.\u00a020, 2024, was full of firsts for Xavi<\/a>. The 20-year-old Mexican American \u00adsinger-songwriter gave his first televised performance of his breakout hit, \u201cLa\u00a0Diabla,\u201d at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, where he also won his first trophy, for artist of the year, new. And this occurred just eight days after he released his celebrated debut album, Next<\/em>, which became his first top\u00a010 on any albums chart.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m still processing it,\u201d Xavi says today. \u201cIt\u2019s something that I didn\u2019t really expect, but it\u2019s a blessing. My grandpa and my whole family would always talk about this type of stuff; it was their dream to make it in the music industry. I\u2019m really trying to push their dreams forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was a fitting, and familiar, flurry of events for the young artist. After the August 2023 release of \u201cLa\u00a0V\u00edctima,\u201d \u201cLa\u00a0Diabla\u201d followed in November and took off in 2024, helping maintain Xavi\u2019s momentum and quickly establishing him as one to watch.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLa\u00a0Diabla\u201d has since tied for the second-\u00adlongest-reigning title of the year on the Hot Latin Songs<\/a> chart, dominating for 14 weeks. (\u201cLa V\u00edctima,\u201d Xavi\u2019s first chart entry, peaked at No.\u00a02.) By the end of 2024, Xavi had placed nine songs on the tally while Next<\/em> debuted at Nos.\u00a06 and 9 on the Regional Mexican Albums<\/a> and Top Latin Albums<\/a> charts, respectively. But Xavi\u2019s greatest accomplishment in a year of many is the spread of his hybrid subgenre: tumbados rom\u00e1nticos<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith his pioneering blend of the musicality of corridos tumbados<\/em> with the melodies of sad sierre\u00f1o<\/em>, Xavi has paved a clear path for himself to explore other genres, too. Growing up between Sonora, Mexico, and Phoenix, his mother would wake him up with music by Vicente Fern\u00e1ndez and Selena, but he says coming to the United States was \u201ca whole different world\u201d and he quickly became a fan of artists like Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar. Now he\u2019s eager to explore all kinds of sounds \u2014 sometimes simultaneously.<\/p>\n
