An insight into Manchester United’s summer transfer budget has been provided over the weekend.

Despite spending big over the summer of 2021, Manchester United were expected to have another hectic summer window this year as well.

The Red Devils still clearly need a new defensive midfielder and a centre-forward that is not in the twilight of his career.

However, the Telegraph suggest that Manchester United’s transfer budget may not be very high this year, explaining that United’s summer transfer budget will be slashed should Ralf Rangnick fail to get them into the Champions League.

And even if Man United do clinch a top-four place, the Telegraph add that a modest spend of around £80m is expected.

So, as premium players at the top of the game can easily set a big side back £50m in today’s market, it does not look as though United will be signing a top striker and central midfielder this year, even if they do earn Champions League football.
