\n\tThe Strokes\u2019<\/a> frontman Julian Casablancas<\/a> has taken to social media to note his refusal to vote in the 2024 U.S election, and explaining his reasoning for doing so.<\/p>\n \n\tTaking to Instagram on Tuesday (Nov. 5), the vocalist shared an image<\/a> of a sticker which read \u201cI Protested\u201d instead of the typical \u201cI Voted\u201d illustration. In the caption, Casablancas explained that his post had been prefaced by a discussion with his mother, who expressed her disagreement with his decision to abstain from the democratic process.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cMy beautiful sweet amazing mom just told me \u2018I agree with you but right now vote at lease to keep trump from winning. Think of your children\u2019,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI understand and respect that viewpoint of marginal incremental betterment, but respectfully do not think it is the path\u2026<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cLike I told her, I am thinking of my children. The 2 parties are a joke\u2026 a horrible lie,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe military and oil companies and banks are who we are voting for \u2013 and the media is their propaganda\/entertainment wing. [And] with the way they cheated Bernie I see little point in choosing between these puppets\u2026 They want you to think it matters. That way nothing will change but it has to change.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tCasablancas\u2019 post was met with widespread criticism in the comments, with fans on sites such as Reddit<\/a> noting they were \u201csuper disappointed\u201d in his decision. Fans on the same site were quick to point out<\/a> that Casablancas\u2019 bandmate, bassist Nikolai Fraiture, had shared<\/a> his own sticker from his early voting experiences on Oct. 31.<\/p>\n \n\tCasablancas also caught the attention of music fans earlier in the week when he spoke to The Guardian<\/a><\/em> for their \u2018Honest Playlist\u2019 feature in support of The Voidz\u2019<\/a> new album, Like All Before You.<\/em> In the discussion, Casablancas reflected on The Strokes\u2019 discography, noting that their breakthrough single \u201cLast Nite\u201d (which peaked at No. 5 on the Alternative Airplay chart in 2002) is a song he can \u201cno longer listen to\u201d.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201c\u2018Last Nite\u2019 by the Strokes is pretty dead to me. I\u2019m not sure why,\u201d he stated. \u201cThere are some others like \u2018Reptilia\u2019, \u2018Hard to Explain\u2019, \u2018Someday\u2019, \u2018Take It Or Leave it\u2019, \u2018New York City Cops\u2019 that are comparable in terms of crowd reaction that I\u2019m not quite as sick of.
