One of the few music videos to depict two queer Black men in love, \u201cMaybe\u201d confronts the age-old question of whether you should fight for someone and try to make it work, or let them go and let fate take its course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe slow-burning, emotionally-charged track is as layered as the subject matter, with Kyri\u2019s soothing voice layered over a mix of minimalist R&amp;B, pop and afrobeats. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Daniel Kyri - Maybe (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sFSbF1Q25-4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKyri says he first started writing the song in 2022, but wasn\u2019t able to fully finish it until last year. \u201cI was in one of the most toxic relationships of my life,\u201d he tells <em>Billboard<\/em>, \u201cand I remember wanting so badly for it to be something good, something healthy\u2026something it wasn\u2019t. And turns out that was extremely painful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWriting \u2018Maybe,&rsquo;\u201d he says, \u201cwas a way to process the loneliness and uncertainty that come with those moments where you\u2019re stuck between wanting to hold on and knowing you should let go. This song lives in the space between decisions, in the doubt and in the fragile hope of possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDirected by Vincent Martell and Jordan Phelps, with choreography by Vic Musoni, the accompanying music video was a way for Kyri to visualize his internal conflict. \u201c[The video] shows us two lovers literally pushing and pulling at each other, wrestling with power and submission, closeness and distance, tenderness, and passion,\u201d the singer says. \u201cWe shot it in this old, run-down house because it felt symbolic of their love\u2014what once was a safe, secure space is now falling apart around them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMaybe\u201d is Kyri\u2019s second single, following his debut release \u201cDreamland Ave, which was released over the summer. Both tracks are expected to appear on the singer\u2019s debut EP, due out next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile <em>Chicago Fire <\/em>just kicked off its 13th season, Kyri says he\u2019s been grateful for the chance to showcase a different side to himself through music. \u201cIn acting there are all these pre-existing frameworks that I am performing within. I don\u2019t have control over the words I\u2019m saying, or the direction I\u2019m getting, or even what makes it past the cutting room floor to the screen,\u201d he explains. \u201cMusic has proven more expansive,\u201d he continues. \u201cI have more freedom and I can use my voice to tell a story that is important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhat\u2019s important to Kyri is using his voice \u2014 and his platform \u2014 to advocate for people who look like him and <em>feel<\/em> like him.
